This piece was commissioned for a show ‘Captive Bred’ that explored ideas of collecting, animals and Victorian natural history. The curator knew of an earlier piece that I had made ‘Palimpsest, following the lines’ ( in archive) that was made in response to inheriting a collection of bird and animal skulls. This is a photographic investigation of the same collection. The piece focuses on the fact that it is a school- boys collection and gives some insights into the world of game keeping, gibbets, and an approach to natural history in the late 1940’s.
